Checksheet & Course Repeat/Replace—How does it work?
Repeating or Replacing
Courses with Grade of D
Repeating
Courses with Grade of F
The checksheet is the
degree audit of the student’s academic program showing completed and
outstanding requirements:
·
BJU Core requirements
·
Major/Concentration and any declared minor
course requirement
·
All applicable checkpoints (test, platforms,
recitals, etc.)
·
Any placement test and/or music audition
results
·
Any approved transfer work
1. All undergraduate students are locked into a catalog year for their
program requirements based on the catalog year they enroll at BJU or change
their major.
2. Anticipated Conferral:
Month and year is listed if the student declared, with the current
academic year, his intent to graduate.
3. Major/Concentration/Minor history lists the current
major/concentration/minor first. The start of the semester is indicated for any
change during a semester.
4. Courses are organized by the term taken. Outstanding courses filter
in the semester view according to a term offered and is flexible based on many
factors (class scheduling, work schedules, prerequisites, etc.).
· Click a course title to view all available terms and/or
delivery methods (semester, summer, even or odd numbered calendar year, online,
etc.).
· The
semester view is unable to filter all courses based on prerequisites.
· Src
(source): major/minor, degree (i.e., blank = BJU Core), or elective courses
[Elective courses (elect) are those beyond declared major/minor or BJU Core
requirements but not necessarily beyond total degree credits required.]
· Status: Checksheet adjustments, placement, repeat,
repeat/replace, etc.
5. Elective credits are listed in various semesters until
completed. Electives (general) listed on the checksheet with no link may be
satisfied by any course.
6. Checkpoints are listed during appropriate sequence of
courses.
7. Number of years indicated corresponds to coursework completed
and/or outstanding and can be altered based on the number of credits taken each
semester, in summer sessions, and/or via distance learning.
8. Grade Point Averages:
Several GPAs are provided including a cumulative quality point surplus
(+) or deficiency (-) based on the minimum GPA degree OR major/program
requirement.
9. Checksheet Adjustments:
Any potential change in the checksheet requirements must be submitted by
the dean of the advisee’s school and approved by the registrar. Verbal
responses by the dean or advisor to advisee questions are not considered valid
reasons for not following the checksheet requirements.
10. Degree Summary:
The minimum degree credit requirements are: associate degree, 60
credits; bachelor’s degree, 120 credits.
Some programs require more credits and thus, don’t have general electives. General elective course credits, including
transfer work, courses for an optional minor, certificate, and/or
concentration, OR a change of major, may meet the minimum degree credit
requirement or may be beyond the minimum degree credit requirement. Any credits beyond the minimum degree credit
requirement increase the total credits completed and/or required for the
degree.
Repeating or Replacing Courses with Grade of D
Repeat/Replace
is noted on a student’s checksheet if a minimum grade of C- or higher is needed
to satisfy the requirement (i.e., major/minor, upper-level theology or bible
courses).
When a student
needs to repeat/replace a course where a grade of D was earned, the student
must be careful in determining what is best to meet either all course
requirements and/or degree credits. This
is especially important when the student is near the 120-credit degree
requirement and repeats courses for which credit has already been earned.
Course Repeat
When a grade of D has been earned and the course is
repeated, credit is not awarded for the second attempt. Both attempts are
calculated into one’s GPA and both attempts satisfy requirements for the
degree:
·
The first attempt satisfies the
credit requirement.
·
The second attempt satisfies the
course requirement.

Course Replacement/Substitution
When a grade of D has been earned, the course requirement
may be replaced with another approved course.
Both course attempts are calculated into one’s GPA:
·
The initial attempt of the course
becomes a general elective counting toward the degree credit requirement.
·
Since the initial course requirement
was previously attempted and credits earned, the second course replaces that
requirement.

Repeating Courses with Grade of F
When a grade of
F has been earned, no credit has been earned.
The attempt is calculated into one’s GPA:
·
If
the course is required, then the course must be repeated.
·
If
the course is a subject level elective to meet major credit requirements or a
general elective to meet degree credits, the course may be replaced with
another course.
Ensure a course fulfills
a specified group requirement, click the group on the checksheet to see all
courses that fulfill the requirement.
Courses not in the
group do not fulfill the requirement and will be indicated as additional (add)
courses on the checksheet once the student has submitted his trial schedule and
his checksheet has been updated.
Specified groups include:
· Major
electives
· Minor
electives
· Subject
Area electives
