When can I submit a residence hall request?

New Students:  Information on requests is available on the Canvas course sent to you from First-Year Experience. You can also contact your Admission Counselor, or the Student Development & Discipleship office.  Two requests may be submitted to be on the same hall, in the same discipleship group or in the same room with other students.

Current Students:  Requests are submitted each April in StudentCentralA request with up to two other returning students can be made as either a same room request or a same discipleship group request. (Each student may only initiate or confirm two requests.) Requests that are part of a chain of longer requests including more than three people will not be valid. Eligible students can also request a senior room or a room in graduate housing. All students are able to request a specific floor, but this does not guarantee a certain residence hall. All personal requests must be reciprocated.

Returning Students:  Requests are submitted each April through the Office of Admission.

A request with up to two other returning students can be made as either a same room request or a same discipleship group request.

Rising Seniors:  Rising academic seniors with at least 90 credit hours may request to room with one other senior in a senior room. Request are submitted in Student Central in April. This request may be made in addition to a specific floor request and one other personal request.

We will do our best to honor your request though there may be rare circumstances in which a request may not be granted due to the number of requests.  Requests to accommodate special needs (e.g., physical handicap, wheel chair access, service dog accommodations) will be honored if at all possible.  Students are to submit these requests through the housing accommodations request for students with disabilities form

Can I make a request to change roommates?

Students should prayerfully consider who they request to be their roommate While BJU works to create a culture of Christlikeness, discipleship, and leadership we expect students who experience differences with others to shoulder their responsibilities as Christians to live and work together.

Students are expected to work out room conflicts using biblical principles (i.e., humility, honesty, kindness, etc.) and respond to mediation if they cannot solve problems on their own.  Room changes will be considered only if personal and mediation efforts have not resolved the issues.

What if my request wasn’t granted?

The Student Development & Discipleship staff seek to honor residence hall request though there may be rare circumstances in which a request may not be granted due to the number of requests.

Once room assignments are released at Check-In at the start of the semester, the Student Development & Discipleship staff will seek to accommodate request that were inadvertently overlooked to accommodate special needs (e.g., physical handicap, wheelchair access, and service dog accommodations) or temporary disabilities requiring extended healing.

What security measures should I take for my personal possessions?

While the university takes measures to provide safety and security throughout campus, we also recommend that students take personal steps to ensure security of their own possessions.

We recommend that students purchase:

·  A lockbox that could fit in a drawer, large enough to secure valuables such as petty cash, personal ID documents, and even a portable hard drive.

·  A lock cable to secure your computer to one of several lock points in your room.
