Welcome Week Activities

I & II Semester 2017-2018

 

The following is to help you identify activities that will assist you in getting ready and acquainted with classmates and faculty as you begin your classes.  Summer work schedules should end the Saturday prior to the start of classes so that you can participate in Welcome Week Activities. Read through the activities for each day, and note all items that apply to you. Refer to the Registration Checklist, Music Auditions and Placement Tests under the links menu option in StudentCentral for additional information pertaining to registration procedures.

 

Beginning Aug./Jan., in StudentCentral complete applicable registration tasks.  Check-In and applicable registration tasks must be completed prior to seeing your advisor, registering for classes or accepting your preregistered class schedule to complete registration. 

 

Reservation Status

Each student’s admission certificate has one of the following reservation statuses for assisting students with registration and Welcome Week activities:

·         New:  Students enrolling for the first time in residence at BJU.

·         Transfer:  Students enrolling for the first time in residence who previously attended a postsecondary institution full-time during a semester following high school graduation.

·         Returning:  Students previously enrolled in residence during a semester at BJU.

 

Registration Assistance/Confirmation

During Check-In and Registration Days, the following assistance is available to students.

·         Academic/Registration:  After consulting with your advisor, academic and registration inquires may be made at the Registrar's Office  (Student Services Hub); Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

·         Career Guide Resources for yearly activities to assist with one’s career action plan and college success at http://home.bju.edu/life/opportunities/careers/.

·         Student Accounts 

o   Accounts may be paid in the Business Office (Student Services Hub):  Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (I Semester only)

o   Financial aid counselors will be available to assist students with unapproved Business Office accounts:  Financial Aid Office (Student Services Hub);  Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.; (I Semester only, during check-In at the Davis Field House)

·         Work Department:  Meet with your work manager to discuss or confirm your work schedule.

Say Cheese!  It’s your first school picture . . . well, besides all the selfies you’ve been snapping.  We’ll take the first ever freshmen class picture.  You will also have a chance to meet the Student Life Staff and get to know other freshmen as well.  Casual attire is recommended.

·      Summer Orientation Attendee:  Even if you registered in Summer Orientation, you should still go by your advisor’s office to say hello and get some advice about which Student Success Workshops to attend.  You may even have a different advisor than the one you saw in Summer Orientation.  In that case, you will definitely want to meet the person who will be guiding your academic journey this year.

·      Registering for the First Time:  If you weren’t able to attend Summer Orientation, you will need to see your advisor to register for your classes.  Prior to going by your advisors office, you should take any placement tests and/or auditions listed on your Admission Certificate.
